Neural cell adhesion molecule 1 (NCAM1), also called CD56, is a homophilic binding glycoprotein expressed on the surface of neurons, glia and skeletal muscle. This protein is a cell adhesion molecule involved in neuron-neuron adhesion, neurite fasciculation, outgrowth of neurites, etc.
